Brown Butter Rice Krispies
Keep these AWAY from me! This treat brings me back to my childhood every time. Whether you are in festival recovery mode, or need a good dessert for your holiday party — these are ooey gooey heaven.
Ingredients:
1 stick of salted butter
1 can sweetened condensed milk
2 bags mini marshmallows
1 bag of rice krispy cereal
DIRECTIONS:
In a sauce pan, melt a stick of unsalted butter on medium heat. To brown this, you need to let the butter cook for a bit - but not too long else it will become burnt butter.
Once it melts you will notice the butter bubble up a lot, which is totally normal. It will get very foamy and then the foam will settle back down.
Once it reaches the settling down stage it is going to start browning, so make sure to keep stirring the butter so it doesn’t burn.
It will start to turn an amber color, and then slowly get more and more brown. You can brown your butter as much or as little as you like, but the more you brown it (without burning it), the more nutty and salty flavor you will achieve.
Once it has browned enough, turn your pan to the lowest heat setting.
Add 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, and stir. Once it is combined add one bag of marshmallows. Let cool for a few minutes and then add the second bag so they don’t completely melt, and you can have little marshmallow chunks in the rice krispy.
Pour in half bag of rice krispy’s to mixture. Stir until combined and then slowly add more as necessary. Do not pour too much or they will absorb the mixture and result in a dry RK.
Once combined, butter a 8x13 dish and press combination down into pan and let sit for about 3 hours before cutting.
ENJOY :-)
